Sara Abbott from Sprague in Salem overcame a wildfire evacuation scare in her neighborhood on Friday night and ran well enough to finish second in the girls varsity race at the Ash Creek XC Festival in 18:50.0 on Saturday in Monmouth. 

Jack Meier from West Salem finished third in the varsity boys race at Ash Creek Preserve, running 15:19.6 and helping his team finish second with 65 points, behind Jesuit (54). 

Jesuit's Maura O'Scannlain ran away from the field and won the varsity girls race at the Ash Creek XC Classic in 18:21.8 in smoky, windy and warm conditions on Saturday morning. She won by 28 seconds. 

Alex Garcia-Silver from Marshfield High of Coos Bay, Ore. won the boys varsity race in 15:09.7 on Saturday in smoky, windy and warm conditions at Ash Creek Preserve in Monmouth, Ore.
